私は、かんこくの食べものがすきです。日本に、かんこくの人がたくさんいます。おいしいレストランも、たくさんあります。私はときどきレストランで、かんこくの食べものを食べました。うちでも、かんこくの食べものを食べました。私はチャプチェがだいすきです。チャプチェはかんこくのヌードル(noodle)です。私はチャプチェをよくつくります(make)。とてもやさしい(easy)です。でもとてもおいしいです。

Based on the discussion on Oct. 16th, below will be used for evaluating blog project this semester.

About the Language
1. Understandable/Readable:
-Words (translate/define new words in English)
-Kanji (refrain from using un-learned kanji or spell out in hiragana)
-Use learned grammatical structures
2. Reasonable length (about five sentences or more in Japanese)
3. Majority of the blog should be in Japanese; can elaborate in English
4. Short paragraphs

About the Content
1. Readable content
2. Displays enthusiasm for learning Japanese
3. Keep content of blog relevant to the assigned topic/stay on topic
4. Interesting information
5. Show your personality

About the Format
1. Readable

1. Discuss what makes a good blog in groups of 3-4 people. (10 min.)

At the end of the semester we will have an evaluation of your blog by not only your teachers but also by yourself and your classmates. We will use the results of your discussions today as a basis for deciding the criteria we will use to evaluate your blogs at the end of the semester.

* Discuss what makes a good blog in groups of 3-4 people.
* Choose one person as a group leader and she will post the result of your discussion in the comment column of this blog, “にほんごでこんにちは！” Make sure to include your names (all the names of your group-mates) with the posting so we know that you have commented.

2. Read the comments made about your own blog. (10 min.)

* Please read the comments made by others about your blog. (People who have already read these comments can skip ahead to step 3 below.)
* Please respond back to those who have commented on your blog if you haven’t done that yet.

3. Please comment on the blogs that you haven’t read before from other sections and from other universities. (Comment on at least 3 blogs). (10 min.)

* To view the blogs of students from other sections, look at the list of classmate links on the right side of the page.
* To view the blogs of Japanese Level 1 students from other countries or other universities, click on the “Lets’ make friends” link on the right-side of the page. You will see a link for (にほんごいちねんせい) and under this link is a list of other universities. If you click on each of these links you will be brought to a listing of blogs of students from other universities.
* Read the blogs and if you think you would want to be friends with the student, please comment on their blog.

It looks like most of your blogs are back in business! よかった！Now, your task for next week is to post at least 3 comments to others'-- Please go to other colleges as well. I also noticed that many of you have received comments from people -- some of them are your classmates/course-mates, others are your fellow Japanese learners from other colleges. In order to open a new blog account, please follow the instructions.

1) Go to http://www.blogger.com to create your blog.
In order to receive comments from as many people as possible, please select "Settings," then "Comments," and choose either "Registered Users" or "Users with Google Accounts" under the "Who can comment?" section. If you want to know how to type Japanese, please click the link listed on the right side.
2) Send your blog address (URL) to the instructor.
If you have trouble opening a new account, please let the instructor know. If you already have a blog and you can use Japanese on it, you do not have to open a new account.
3) Post a blog entry regularly.
If you have no idea about what to write, please see the following suggested topics.

Blog Project!

Blog Project:

Welcome to the Blogging Project! For this class we would like you to keep a blog because it provides a place:

1) To share/express your happiness, surprise, excitement, and/or frustration, as well as any questions you might have, while learning the Japanese language (or any other topics).

While studying new grammar and words is very important when learning a language, it is equally important to actually use the language in a real life context. You must not wait to express yourself only when you think you have mastered the language because language learning is basically an ongoing process. In the beginning you may use English or any languages to express yourself, but I recommend that you gradually switch to Japanese whenever you feel comfortable enough to express yourself in Japanese.

2) To communicate with your classmates and other people outside of class.

Language learning is not limited to what you do for the course but also includes what you do and experience outside the class. For this project I will ask you to form a group with two or three students. The purpose of the group is to encourage and monitor each other (e.g., leaving a comment on each other’s blog and making sure everyone is following the schedule). I will ask you to change groups once or twice during the semester.

We will also create links to your classmates' blogs as well as blogs by students in other sections, other levels, and other schools (some from other countries!), so you can see what other people think and feel about Japanese language learning (as well as other topics). You are also encouraged to leave comments on these blogs.

3) To reflect (or evaluate) what you have done so far.

Sometimes it is challenging to see our own progress or growth. Blogs help you to look back and see how you have changed through the course of your Japanese language learning.
